Supermarket of Advantages - 2005
This practice aimed to denounce the abuses of speculators in the real estate market, the population and local public power, who frequently promote the indiscriminate cutting of trees in the central area of Divinópolis.
It was found that the Environmental Secretary of the local city council collaborated to invalidate the Forest Code in urban areas, promoting these cuts as requested by construction companies and owners of central properties.
Posters were written with phrases/motives that showed reasons for why trees were being cleared in the city. These posters were made of supermarket adverts, and the sentences were based on a survey with the councils of tree cutting in the city.
The result is the constant threat and aggravation of important areas for soil conservation and water resources. These are situations already existing in large cities such as: river pollution, floods and water supply.
This shows that the urban occupation of Brazil is quite disorderly, and one of the serious consequences of this problem is the destruction of native forests in favor of the enlargement of cities and the paving of streets and squares. Trees in the city reduce aspects of climate changes and polluted air.
The Forest Code and the City Statute (ENVIRONMENT, 2012) are instruments that, at least, minimize this process, since they prevent the indiscriminate cutting of trees in the city and the advancement of the urban frontier in restingas, slopes, marshes and cliffs, lagoons, banks rivers and others.
